If I order a used one, and make sure part numbers all match, does it need to be reprogrammed at a dealer? Our symptoms are a hard "kick" when re-accelerating from slowing or a stop, and an occasional kick when it shifts, tho they are rare. Also have had one instance where the wife was driving, and received NO power to the wheels, rpm's everything like normal, she shut it off let it set for 2 hours or so, started and no issues except for the kick.

The kick is only after it has had time to run and "warm up". Ours runs sweet outside of that. Ok thanks. We have been having trouble with our quest.

Its been going into limp mode. Tech said it was the ECM not communicating with the transmission. We sent the ecm off to be tested and it's fine. Just wondering if we were having the sane issues and if you could share info. I'm thinking our problem is the trans control module.

Same as ours, tho the "limp" mode has only been one time, guy at the shop told me the same thing, and said to replace the tcm would be cheaper at the dealer due to reprogramming either the ecm or the tcm. Was hopeful maybe someone knew for certain if the tcm HAD to be programmed My mech thought my ecm was the problem but I sent it to ecurepair1 to have it tested. The advice getting to is the tcm. I was told by the dealer that they do not have to be reprogrammed, but you have to match the part numbers.

As long AC it's the sabe part number it shoukd plug right in and be read. My ecu is losing communication with my transmission so I hope that's it.

I just ordered one for ours for 55 bucks too, exact part number matches,so Im hopeful too that it fixes the issue, its a "good - used". Keep me posted, and I will you as well, good luck. I just replaced my tcm with a used one from another altima. Now I'm getting A u can com circuit fault. Not had time to put my old tcm back in to see if the code goes away.

Will do that this weekend. BB code is On. Smilies are On.Like most modern vehicles, the Dodge Ram features an engine management computer that handles various aspects of the vehicle, including throttle input, fuel management and transmission shifting.

Many Ram owners install aftermarket chips that improve the Ram's overall performance. Installing or removing these chips may require the Ram's engine computer to be reset. After resetting the computer, there will be a learning period when the computer adjusts to new throttle inputs and shift points.

Unlatch the hood by pulling the hood release handle near the driver's side foot well. Depress the handle underneath the Ram's grille and open the hood. Disconnect the negative terminal cable from the battery with a combination wrench. Set the negative terminal cable aside and wait 20 minutes.

This will drain the computer's stored electricity and clear its memory. This article was written by the It Still Runs team, copy edited and fact checked through a multi-point auditing system, in efforts to ensure our readers only receive the best information.

I assume that because the scanner sees this RPM it will not clear the code. Specialty: engine, electrical, general repair, diagnostic, some hybrid, gravy jobs, turd polisher. College Auto Instructor. Is there anyway to reset the tcm in a 02 Dodge Ram?

Clear learning memory using the scan tool. That would be great if I could clear the code. The Verus is reading the trans is going at rpm when the key is on. So this will not allow me to clear the code to do the relearn as it thinks the car is moving. I am assuming that this is a software error as the PCM is fine and reading correctly.

I have researched this further and found no aftermarket tool can do this. SO please fix this allow us to work on this vehicle correctly. Earl Davis. I recently had the same problem with one of these vehicles and none of the above mentioned procedures worked. The Witech would not initialize the new trans either.A reset removes the owner authorization value and any keys stored in the TPM.

To reset a TPM, you must provide a valid owner authorization value. You can enter an owner authorization value or specify a file that contains the value.

If you do not provide a value, the cmdlet attempts to use a value stored in the registry. This command resets the TPM. The command uses the owner authorization value stored in the registry instead of specifying a value or using a value in a file. This command resets the TPM by using the owner authorization value included in the specified file.

Trying to work my way out of a limp mode condition on my 06 CSRT8. This all started with trying to install a Tranzformer.

I discovered finally that my TCM had lost a "blade" on the connector. Turns out this is the 37 pin which is consistent with the DTC. My question is this: after installing the new MTCM, and, assuming that this corrects the underlying problem open circuit to the solenoid control will I have to bring it to the dealer for a reset to get out of limp mode?

I have a Torque OBD tool that can clear the codes. Just not sure if there is another level of reset. No need for dealer visit. If you fix the problem causing the fault code, and your scanner can clear TCM codes, your all set, or just disconnect battery for a few min will clear it too. Originally Posted by Darnice.

Brief road test appears out of limp mode now. I have studied the Adaptive Procedure and I hae a hard time imagining that I could execute all that precisely with out interruption on a public road. I can monitor fluid temp ok to know when the sequence initiates. What if I had to stop for a traffic signal?

The dealer has no way to by pass the on road learning do they? Just the last 10 minutes of store time, right? The WA is used by many Vehicle Manufacturers to this day. As such, you need to properly plan for proper execution.

If you feel you don't have the ability to accomplish it, let the dealership do it for you. O r worse, if folks don't understand the value the procedure affords your transmission especially if it being abusedsimply ignore the Instructions. The lowest transmission fluid temperature set point shown on the instruction sheet is the trigger for a new TCM to commence collecting and storing data. If you've driven the vehicle and exceeded that, it will have begun to store data no matter what.

In which case, the TCM would need to be manually purged of that erroneous data and a relearn executed.

Pistol grip shifter. My bf is on the road to Las Vegas and jsut called asking me to find all the info I can on resetting the transmission control module in his truck.

I need help, fast. See basically the TCM when first hooked up will send info to the PCM and actually learn by saving the top best gear shifting performances it has after driving it for several miles but also the TCM does have a factory program that was installed into it durning assembly. This program can fail or act up or require flash or program updates via the dealerships.

For some TCM's there is a learning mode it can be set to or that it will automatically go into. With some models if theres no key or special security codes or alarm codes then simply disconnecting the battery for 10 to 20 mins should reset the comps but I'd not want to try this method far away from home or a dealership or transmission shop just in case.

Yes a transmission shop could or should know how to get the TCM to want to relearn or atleast the dealership can flash program it. He could drop by a U pick auto wreckers and pick up another TCM and the wreckers should be able to tell him if theres any special precautions or program updates etc requiredplus be sure he pulls one out of a vehicle with the same enginesame tranmission and same features.

The TCM works with the PCM and if either one gets faulty or has bad grounds or has bad wire connections or bad connections this cause cause the vehicle to buck or kick or stutter, also the transmission fluid getting hot or wearing down can cause such problems too. If hes on a long haul and the engine is running a bit warmer then normal that could be why the transmission is acting up or the wiring or the comps could be getting hotter then normal.

I'd be for sure checking the coolant levels and it's quality too once engine is cold and also looking for any leaks transmission or otherwise just in case.

He might be better off to buy a transmission cooler unittheir cheap and easy to install and be sure he's checking the colour and level of the transmission fluid too. That vehicle probably has overmiles on it and if it's not had any factory 60 buck or so flash updates checked into or performed on it or the transmission fluid and filter changed I'd sure start there.

Hope that helps and best of luck. By the way let him know that the transmission fluids recommended by Dodge is the only type he should ever add and that these fluids have special chemical additives in them that when worn down cause the same kicking or hestitation or bucking or gear changing issues.

Unhook battery for 30 seconds. If this doesn't help, then a service call to a dealer is needed. Good Luck! Should have followed the driving instructions in the owners manual, like turning off the overdrive when ascending grades.

Loved my maps, loved the highlighted route that Hilmar did for us. From the onset, the communications with Nordic Visitor were really good. We were able to select the tour that best fit our needs and the experience was extraordinary.

In our particular case, there were two labor strikes at KEF that had an impact on our arrival and departure times. Nordic Visitor notified us before the airline about the strike and the impact on flight scheduled, adjusted our tour schedule to accommodate us and even make up some of the lost time. While on day 2, they called the tour guide and notified him of our schedule change the following day due to the second labor strike at the airport.

The two key events on our short stay were absolutely fantastic, even to the point of us doing it again. The people were wonderful, helpful, and the tour out of this world exciting. Whatever good expectations we had were vastly exceeded by the quality and dedication of Nordic Visitor. We would absolutely go to them again for our next and future visits to Iceland and other Nordic countries. The tour guides in each city were charming and very knowledgeable.

The accommodations were lovely and the included breakfasts at each hotel and on the ship were generous and delicious. The trip was well organized and we had a fabulous time.

Perfect planning, consultance, preparations and support by Nordic Visitor. All (from site to emails) is clear, to the point, practical and responsive. Everything moved like clockwork although the rugged country and tricky weather are not easily manageable. Iceland has endless beauty to offer, Icelanders are few but friendly, sensible and thorough and so the outcome was a smooth and fantastic trip.

Also, food throughout was excellent and little Reykjavik is as creatively trendy as any hype metropolis. It was all very convenient, the service was always friendly, and I always had my questions answered. This was the best service I've ever experienced. Everyone was nice, everything was simple, and I had the best vacation of my life (despite the uncooperative weather).

Our trip was amazing. The hotels and day trips were all very good. Hilmar was brilliant before we flew out to Iceland. Always very quick to respond, friendly and very informative with any questions we had. Was so lovely to have a bottle of champagne and lovely chocolates waiting for us in our room when we arrived. It made the start to our honeymoon very special. We even got to see the Northern Lights too on our second attempt.
